Back in April, I had the pleasure of welcoming Benji to my Solo Training Walks. Benji, a sensitive soul, struggles with fear-based reactivity around other dogs and strangers.
Over the past eight months, we’ve built a strong and trusting bond, making our walks something we both look forward to every week.
When I first started working with Benji, his reactivity could be a challenge. Seeing a trigger would lead to pulling and lunging, and he was quite strong on the lead.
Fast-forward to today, and the progress is incredible. Benji now walks beautifully to heel on cue and maintains a loose lead with ease. His focus and listening skills have improved so much that he can enjoy more freedom on a long lead, exploring the world with greater confidence.
A huge part of this success is thanks to Benji’s incredible owners, who have shown unwavering dedication to his training. They’ve committed to taking him to additional classes and put in consistent effort to work on his obedience and confidence. Their hard work and patience have played a vital role in shaping the progress Benji has made. It’s inspiring to see how much they care and the positive impact their commitment has had on Benji’s journey
Of course, progress in managing reactivity is never linear. It’s an ongoing journey, full of ups and downs. Benji has had setbacks and moments of lost confidence, but what makes him truly special is his resilience. He always bounces back, ready to rebuild and continue progressing, showing just how determined he is.
Benji is a joy to work with—his calm listening skills, good behaviour, and lovable personality make our adventures together so rewarding. I’m proud of everything he’s achieved so far and grateful to be part of his journey. Here’s to many more walks and continued progress with Benji 🥰
